Buying a gun in Las Vegas
Order online, pick it up at a licensed dealer in the valley. Here is exactly how a Clark County transfer runs, and what to bring.
Las Vegas has plenty of gun counters, but no counter carries everything. Buying online widens the shelf to a full distributor catalog and still finishes the same way every legal gun sale finishes in Nevada: with a licensed dealer, Form 4473 and a background check.
What to bring to the dealer
- Government photo ID with your current address. A Nevada driver's license or ID card is the usual one.
- The transfer fee, paid to the dealer, not to us. Commonly $20 to $75.
- Your order number so the shop can match the package to you.
You do not need a permit, a license or a registration card. Nevada issues none for buying.
Clark County specifics
For decades Clark County required every handgun in the county to be registered, and people still call it the blue card. That requirement was repealed in 2015 when Nevada's firearm preemption law took effect, and the county stopped registering handguns. There is nothing to register today, and no county paperwork on top of the federal form.
Preemption also means Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and unincorporated Clark County cannot write their own rules on buying, owning or transferring firearms (NRS 268.418 for cities, NRS 244.364 for counties). What is legal in Elko is legal on Rainbow Boulevard. Local governments do still control their own buildings and property, and so does any private business.

Shooting near Las Vegas
Most valley shooting happens on indoor ranges or at the public ranges south and north of town. Shooting on public land near Las Vegas is limited by how much of the valley is developed or closed, so check the managing agency, BLM or Forest Service, before you drive out with a rifle. Ranges that rent lanes are the simple answer for sighting in a new gun.
